WARANGAL: Warangal legislator B. Saraiah on Friday announced that the State government had sanctioned a government degree college. Mr. Saraiah, accompanied by officials of R&B, Education and Revenue departments, visited the government school at Shambunipet area where the degree college would be set up soon. “The government has sanctioned Rs. 30 lakh in the first phase. “The college will offer BA, B.Com. and B.Sc. to begin with and soon it will be upgraded into a PG centre in future,” he told the cheering students of school and junior college there. Long dueThough there were many private degree and PG colleges in Warangal town, the government degree college was long due. The migrant labour and urban poor were unable to afford higher education in private colleges and as the result, brilliant children were turning into labourers doing odd jobs, he said. Mr. Saraiah said he had met Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy with the proposal and he readily agreed and sanctioned the college. To be upgraded“This college will be upgraded into a PG college in future and then the premises will have school, junior and degree colleges and also a PG college,” he told the students who gathered there.Congress senior leader B. Prakash and other officials were present.
