Workshop held on ‘Cyber law crime and economic crimes’ ‘People should have basic understanding of cyber world and laws governing it’ GADAG: Deputy Commissioner of Gadag N. Sriraman has underscored the need for creating awareness on the misuse of technology for crime, especially in the wake of increasing number of “sophisticated” crimes. He was presiding over the one-day workshop on “Cyber law crime and economic crimes” organised jointly by the Cyber Lab of the Corps of Detectives, Bangalore; NASSCOM, Gadag District Legal Services Cell and S.A. Manwi Law College here on Saturday. Mr. Sriraman said with the advent of technology, the risk of people being duped by sophisticated criminals had increased. Delivering the keynote address, life member of the KLE Society A.M. Hiremath said there was a need to include subjects such as cyber crime and information technology in the curriculum. Chairman of the local governing body of the college A.S. Manwi underscored the need for creating awareness on cyber crime. Registrar of the Bangalore University Sanjay Veer Singh said it was difficult to trace cyber criminals as technology had enabled them to operate from beyond boundaries. ‘Not impossible’However, it was not an impossible task as technology itself was helpful in finding such criminals, Mr. Singh added. He said that people should have basic understanding of the cyber world and the laws governing it.
