Employment scenario and trends explained JKC, Guntur, excels in placement services
IT’S HAPPENING: Infosys Project Genesis project anchor Ashish Mittal addressing the students at Government Women’s College in Guntur on Saturday. — GUNTUR: Final year students belonging to various colleges in the district had a feel of the style and functioning of software giant Infosys at an Infosys Affirmative Programme, ‘Project Genesis’ held on Government Women’s College premises here. Bird’s eye viewAshish Mittal, project anchor of the programme, gave a bird’s eye view to the students on the working of Infosys, explaining the nature of job and the soft skills needed in information technology and information technology enabled services. He began the interactive session by asking the students what they knew about Infosys. While most of the students sang paeans of the company and expressed their desire to join it, very few actually answered the question. Mr. Mittal went on to explain about the present employment scenario and the current trends in the job market and asked the students to fine tune their skills. Earlier, in a power-point presentation, Jawahar Knowledge Centre Coordinator Sasibala said that JKC, Guntur, had achieved a success rate of 40 per cent in terms of placement, with 155 out of 392 students trained getting placement in various companies. The success rate in JKC nodal centres was 30 per cent, she said while pointing out that the JKC, Guntur, had the highest placement record in the State. Mega campus driveDuring the mega campus drive held by Infosys Project Genesis early this year, 550 students were selected out of 1,852 candidates who appeared for the interviews. These included 475 in the BPO sector and 85 in the IT sector. She said that many English Language Training programmes were held in the JKC, Women’s College Centre helping the teachers to fine tune their skills.
