CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Saturday appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to defer issuing the Coastal Management Zone notification 2008, until coastal communities, especially fishermen, fully accept the provisions.
In a letter, Mr. Karunanidhi pointed out that there was “strong apprehension” among the coastal communities that the notification would endanger their livelihood and put them to much hardship.
Mr. Karunanidhi wanted the Centre to make available the notification in Tamil as this would not only help the coastal communities to understand its various provisions but also enable them to articulate their views and apprehensions to the government, making the entire process meaningful.
