Dibbapalem tense

Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM: Tension gripped Dibbapalem after the arrest of Dibbapapalem Displaced Persons’ Aikya Vedika president Kadiri Kannayya on Saturday.

After deploying 500 plus policemen, the police called the fishermen leader for talks and later arrested him.

A fear psychosis on forceful demolition was created as the Gangavaram port management is said to be putting pressure on the State Government to hand over Dibbapalem village for developing additional stacking area.

While 1,270 families accepted the compensation package and agreed to vacate their houses, 350 owing allegiance to the Vedika refused to leave the village, demanding categorical assurance from the management of the private port to provide permanent jobs to at least one member of the project-affected family.

Demolition of vacated houses is being carried out in the presence of a large number of policemen.

“As of now there is no law and order problem at Dibbapalem,” says a police officer.
