Jayalalithaa ignored Muslims: Karunanidhi

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Saturday said AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who had ignored Muslims, was now claiming to be the protector of the community. Don’t the Muslims know about this, he asked.

Answering a question relating to Ms. Jayalalithaa’s speech at an Ifthar party that the State never witnessed communal clashes whenever her party was in power, Mr. Karunanidhi said there was a time when there was not even a single Muslim Minister in her cabinet. In the present DMK ministry, there were two.

3.5 per cent quota

He listed the steps taken by the government for the welfare of Muslims, particularly the 3.5 per cent reservation. Was not the legislation relating to religious conversions brought in by Ms. Jayalalithaa sufficient to show to what extent she had affection towards Muslims? Don’t the people know who cancelled the holiday that was declared during the DMK regime for Milad-un-Nabi, Mr. Karunanidhi asked.
