Worker dies as centring of structure collapses
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: A 23-year-old labourer died and seven persons suffered minor injuries when the centring of a building under construction on Mahatma Gandhi Road collapsed on Saturday. The Fire and Emergency Services personnel found the body trapped under the concrete after nearly a ten-hour search. The incident occurred at the place where G.K. Vale photo studio was located. Concrete was being laid on a portion of the second floor of the building since Friday night.
BBMP Chief Engineer H.C. Anandaswamy said the structure collapsed as the structural engineer had not calculated the load properly. “A criminal case will be booked against Surendra, owner of the building that is under construction, the engineer and the contractor,” Mr. Anandaswamy said.
The Cubbon Park police have registered a case of negligence against Mr. Surendra; Uday Kumar, owner of Constel construction company; Nanjundaswamy, the site engineer; and Sharieff Associates, the architects. All the four have been booked under Section 304 (a) (causing death due to negligence) and Section 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of IPC.
