All about knee care

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Puducherry, on Sunday organised a talk on total knee replacement surgery and recent advances in paediatric cardiovascular surgery.

According to a release, consultant ortho surgeon from Bangalore, Srinivas, spoke on knee replacement surgery. He said osteoarthritis was the most common form of arthritis and often caused by “wear and tear.”

The symptoms were joint pain, stiffness and loss of joint function. The condition usually develops between the age of 40 and 60.

Osteoarthritis could cause significant disability and was the reason for most knee and hip replacement surgeries. The vast majority of people who undergo joint replacement surgery have dramatic improvement and this was notable after one or more months after the surgery. The patient was relieved of the pain caused by the damaged joint after surgery.

President of IMA, Puducherry, V. Govindaraj and vice-president of IMA, Puducherry, Krishna Kumar also spoke.
