TIRUPATTUR: Educated people should voluntarily take up social service to bring about an overall change in society, Judge of Madras High Court, Madurai Bench, V. Ramasubramanian has said. Participating in the valedictory of the 30th anniversary celebrations of the Centre For Rural Health and Social Education (CRHSE) at Yelagiri Hills here on Saturday, he said people should always think about bringing positive changes in society. The educated should actively get involved in social service, which would lead to socio-economic development in the country. Mr. Justice Ramasubramanian said that as per the latest statistics, a total of 1.30 lakh people in the country were ‘rich.’ This was 27 per cent higher than last year’s figure. With huge amounts of money locked in select places, overall development of the country suffered. This trend should be changed. Further, rural women were turning out to be more knowledgeable than their urban counterparts. Non-government organisations such as the CRHSE played a vital role in women development in rural and tribal areas. Bennet Benjamin, director of CRHSE, said that social organisations should always come forward to address the problems faced by people. Caste, creed and religion are secondary when it comes to addressing problems. Social transformation would become a reality only with economic self-sufficiency and political self-determination, he said.
