Improve connectivity to flood-hit villages, officials told

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: The State government on Sunday asked different departments to improve connectivity to flood-hit villages on war-footing and restore damaged canal system so that farmers could get a good rabi crop.

Chairing a flood-review meeting here, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik laid emphasis on irrigation during the rabi crop and asked to repair canals within the next 30 days. He said Rs. 10,000 would be disbursed through pani panchayats for repair of lift irrigation points.

Since kharif crop was severely affected by floodwaters, farmers will be pinning all their hopes in rabi crops.

Similarly, Mr. Patnaik said connectivity should get the highest priority when water would be receded from villages and all the roads inside villages should be made concrete. Health Department informed that there was no report of any epidemic pertaining to domestic cattle. Earlier, Chief Minister visited several places of Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Puri and took stock of relief operation in the flood-hit zones.
