7 killed in cracker explosion

BHUBANESWAR: At least seven persons including five minors were killed and another one was battling for life when explosion took place inside a house used for manufacturing of crackers in Balasore district on Sunday.

“A person Srustidhar Nayak was perhaps illegally manufacturing and storing crackers inside his house.

In the evening, when neighbourhood children were watching television, the explosion took place. Seven of them died on the spot,” Y. K Jethwa, Deputy Inspector General of Eastern Range, told The Hindu over phone.

He said a critical injured person was shifted to Mayurbhanj district hospital at Baripada where there were special wards for born injuries available.

The person who was manufacturing crackers at his Gunduripada village under Basta police station had absconded, Mr. Jethwa said.
