NEW DELHI: Just days after Delhi University launched its central placement cell, efforts are under way at Jawaharlal Nehru University here to provide a similar arrangement for its students. The Committee on Alumni Affairs and Placement at JNU is exploring various ways and means through which it can find its students a comfortable place in the realm of the professional world. Petition signedThe efforts have gathered momentum following submission of a petition signed by a number of students demanding a placement cell on the campus. In this direction, a workshop on “Evolving JNU approach for career guidance and placement activities” is scheduled to be organised early next week. Representatives from the JNU students’ union, teachers’ association, the deans of all JNU Schools and both the Rectors will deliberate during the workshop. “In the past seven years, there has been a great shift in the career opportunities for students. The positive thing is that many new international opportunities exist for students now since India is in the eye of globalisation.” said Prof. Anand Kumar, the chief adviser to the Committee. “The students are baffled as they are not able to place themselves in this chaos. They need guidance during every semester. .” One proposal being envisaged to help students is to develop an interactive website on which subject experts will be available to answer students’ questions on how they want to plan their career. Another suggestion is to engage senior faculty members associated with JNU as professor emeritus and use their expertise and knowledge.
