Two hostel wardens suspended

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Karnataka Backward Classes Commission Chairman C.S. Dwarkanath on Saturday ordered suspension of wardens of two hostels for students from backward classes at K.R. Puram here for the poor conditions there.

Action

He also recommended action against taluk officer Ramakrishna and district officer Sannanayaka of the Backward Classes Department.

Mr. Dwarkanath, who paid a surprise visit to the pre-matric and post-matric hostels for girls, found that the facilities there were below the expected standards.

He found eight girls in one room meant to accommodate two.

There was only one toilet for 65 girls.

Substandard

They were being served substandard food and water.

The inmates told Mr. Dwarkanath that they brought potable water from houses nearby.

Mr. Dwarkanath also found that the mandatory weekly medical check-up was not being conducted.
