50 hospitalised with dysentery

Staff Reporter

DHARMAPURI: Fifty persons, mostly potters from Krishnapuram village in Dharmapuri district, were admitted to government hospital and primary health centre on Sunday after they complained of vomiting and dysentery.

Contamination of drinking water was stated to be the reason. Drinking water was being supplied once a week to the hamlet with a population of 2000. Most of the people were treaded as outpatients, said N. Ayyanar, Deputy Director of the Health Department. As a precautionary measure, Health Department officials supplied Toxicycline tablets and the patients were asked to take them twice a day for three days.

An ambulance and two health inspectors have been stationed in the village, Dr. Ayyanar added.
