dated September 29, 1958: Far East situation

Mr. V.K. Krishna Menon, India’s Defence Minister and head of the Indian delegation to the U.N. General Assembly, described the Far East situation as one of “extreme gravity, which could set the world in flames.” Answering questions on a television interview programme on September 28 in New York, Mr. Krishna Menon said every effort must be made for a peaceful settlement. He said it might be possible to “change the character of the Warsaw talks”, between the United States and the Chinese ambassadors.
