This Day That Age
The death roll resulting from typhoon, “Ida”, Japan’s worst typhoon in 24 years, has risen to 330, the police said on September 28. Some 990 more are missing. Most of the damage and casualties from the typhoon occurred on the Izu peninsula about 100 miles south-west of Tokyo. This area was in the direct track of the typhoon, whereas Tokyo and Yokohama received only heavy rainfall associated with the typhoon’s progress up the coast. The crew of a helicopter found one valley in the hot spring areas where five villages appeared to have been washed away.
