KOLKATA: The baby boy, who was declared stillborn by doctors of a city nursing home and found to be alive later, is now all set to go home. The premature infant had been shifted to the Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) shortly after his heart was found to be beating nearly 10 hours after he was pronounced dead on July 1. A distraught Manas Kumar Das, his father, had alleged negligence on the part of the doctors at the nursing home. The CMRI authorities said on Sunday that the child is well enough to be discharged on Monday. With gratitudeAn overwhelmed Mr. Das and his wife, Sangita — residents of Howrah — expressed their gratitude to the doctors and authorities of CMRI for nursing their baby back to health. “Tomorrow [Monday, when the baby is to be discharged] is to be a day of joy,” a beaming Mr. Das told journalists. His wife said the thought of taking her baby home brought her “a joy that has no bounds.” Word of thanksMr. Das had a special word of thanks to “the 35 people who donated their blood to my baby.” “And to the doctors, staff and security for the way they have helped us these past weeks.” “It is a miracle”“It is a miracle…the way the baby fought against all odds to reach so far,” Rupak Barua, chief operations officer, CMRI, told The Hindu. “From the very first day when the baby, weighing barely 700 gm, was brought to us, we took it as a challenge to get him well. It was a big challenge and a great team effort; otherwise it would not have been possible for us to be in a position to be able to release him [Monday],” Mr. Barua added. The baby now weighs 1,200 grams.
