Bangalore blast case accused reveals links with SIMI

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The engineering student from Bijapur, who was arrested in connection with the serial blasts in Bangalore, has revealed that he was in close contact before and after the blasts with Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activist Tauqeer whose hand is suspected in the recent serial blasts in the country.

The police have recovered a stolen motorcycle, which they said, was intended to be used in the serial blasts.

Following the interrogation of Mohammed Samee Bagewadi, the student, the police also recovered incriminating material stored in the computer, and CDs.

A press release from the Police Commissioner’s Office said that the motorcycle, which was stolen from Hubli on December 31 last, was handed over to Mohammed by SIMI activists Adnan, Raziuddin Nasir and Asadulla in January this year.

The vehicle was intended to be used for carrying out serial blasts in Goa and Karnataka, it said. “The recoveries were made in Bijapur town and Pune city. The cyber café visited by Mohammed during his stay in Bangalore prior to the blast has been identified,” the release said, adding that he had been influenced by SIMI ideology, and had associated himself with SIMI leaders such as Safdar Hussain Nagori, Hafeez Hussain alias Adnan, Shibly, Tauqeer, Shahbaz, Abu Bashar and others.

SIMI camps

“He attended most of the important camps organised by SIMI at Castle Rock near Hubli, Vagamon in Kerala, and other places,” the release added.

The release said that Mohammed had also attended many meetings held in Karnataka by SIMI hardliners during which decision to carry out violent “jehadi” activities were taken in a bid to take revenge on those responsible for the demolition of the Babri Masjid, the Gujarat violence and the “discrimination” of minority communities.
