Master plan to be evolved for tourism development

Temple towns, tourist locations to be improved in Nagapattinam

NAGAPATTINAM: The district administration is chalking out a massive plan to attract tourists by developing various tourist spots in the district, said M. Jayaraman, Collector, on Saturday.

Participating in the Tourism Day celebrations organised by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department at Poompuhar, the Collector said that tourist places like the ancient port town of Poompuhar, Tarangampadi, Velankanni, Point Calimere and many temple towns, including Vaitheeswarankovil, would be developed to attract tourists.

The Collector said that the district administration had sought an initial allocation of Rs.5 crore for the development of Poompuhar area and to provide basic amenities to tourists.

He pointed out that a panel would be constituted to prepare a master plan for tourism development in the district and it would soon be sent to the Government for its approval.
