KOCHI: Every year, Kharagpur, a small town in West Bengal, hosts a congregation of thousands of students from across the country. The young talents converge towards a common goal of learning, showcasing and challenging the present and future technology and management methodologies. Titled ‘Kshitij’, the annual techno-management festival of IIT Kharagpur provides a place to intermingle and collaborate to conceive and executive ideas. This year’s edition of Kshitij will be held from January 29 to February 1. Organisers of the event will soon reach Kerala to invite students for the mega event. “More than 30 technical and 15 managerial events will be held during the four-day programme,” says Rohit Sudheendranath, organising team member of Kshitij 2009. The car design event provides enough scope for students to design the interiors of a new futuristic car suiting different profiles, all at the same time. Students will design a ventilation and air condition system for a building, as part of the ‘refrigeration’ event. Varied activitiesThe ‘Senate’ is all about passing of bills proposed by participating teams to an assembly of jury members. ‘Zero Hour’ includes an interactive case study followed by a panel discussion with the stalwarts from eminent research institutes, microfinance institutions, industry experts and NGOs. They will share their views on the topic of the lurking food crisis. ‘El Dorado’ is a city planning event asking students to optimise the location of different infrastructures in a new city. ‘B-Plan’ helps students present a business plan validated and judged by the best in the industry. ‘OpenSoft’ is an open ended software design competition wherein students can submit any software that they have made till date. ‘Woodstock’ event is an online simulation of the stock market with real data from the stock exchange, virtual money and real time trade share price fluctuations. Mr. Sudheendranath said the deadline for the first round submissions for many of the events is December 16. More details can be had from “Team KSHITIJ” on: kshitij@ktj.in
