Air Marshal S.C. Mukul bids farewell

Farewell: SAC personnel pulling a jeep carrying Air Marshal S.C. Mukul in a ceremony at the command’s headquarters in the city on Sunday.

Thiruvananthapuram: Air Marshal S.C. Mukul, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, relinquished command of the Southern Air Command at a function held here on Sunday. He will be take over the reins of the Integrated Defence Staff in New Delhi from October 1.

In a traditional military ceremony, Air Marshal Mukul was presented a guard-of-honour by personnel of the Southern Air Command at the command’s headquarters in Aakulam.

The Indian Air Force men pulled a jeep carrying the Air Marshal.

Air Marshal Mukul took command of the Southern Air Command on April 1 this year. It is during his tenure that the country’s air assets in the southern peninsula were strengthened in view of the increasing threat perception. The air defence of the Exclusive Economic Zone extending deep into the Indian Ocean was also stepped up.

It is also during his term that the SAC staged an impressive air show to mark its silver jubilee.

CORRECTIONS AND CLARIFICATIONS

The last paragraph of a Thiruvananthapuram report "Air Marshal S.C. Mukul bids farewell" (Some Southern editions, September 29, 2008, page 2) was "It is also during his term that the IAF staged an impressive air show to mark its silver jubilee." It was the platinum jubilee (1932-2007).
