10-day festivities from September 30

Idols to be kept at three centres in city

Arrangements on for Vijayadasami day

Thiruvananthapuram: Navaratri idols from Tamil Nadu were accorded a colourful reception at Kaliyikkavila, at the State border, on Sunday.

Officials of the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) received the three idols — that of Saraswathy Devi from Padmanabhapuram; Munnuttinanga from Sucheendram and Sree Murugan from Kumarakovil.

The idols are an integral element of the Navaratri celebrations to be held in the city.

Deputy Devaswom Officer Vijayan, Assistant Commissioner Ramdas, Vigilance Officer Suresh Kumar, Selvaraj, MLA, Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, and Neyyattinkara Tahsildar Adheena were present.

The convoy carrying the idols proceeded to the Neyyattinkara Krishnaswamy temple.

After overnight halt, the procession will begin its journey to Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.

In the city, the idols will be received at the Karamana Aavadi Amman temple on Monday evening from where these will be taken to their destinations.

The procession will include caparisoned elephants, mounted police, the police band and decorated floats.

The Saraswathy idol will be kept at the Navaratri Mandapam. The idol of Sree Murugan will be placed at the Aryasala temple and Munnoottinanga at the Chenthitta temple. Pujas will be held for the next 10 days at these temples.

The 10-day Navaratri Mahotsavam will be held at the Pakadasala Mandapam, Fort, here from September 30. A press note issued by the Navaratri Trust said the public would be allowed to view the idols at the Navaratri Mandapam at specific hours in the morning, evening and night. Devotees can make special offerings to the deity at this time.

From September 30 to October 8, eminent musicians will give recitals at the mandapam. The concerts will be from 6 to 8.30 p.m. on all nine days.

Arrangements were being made for initiating children into the world of letters on Vijayadasami day (October 9), the trust press release said.
