Good response to Sunday’s seat selection session

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) on Sunday conducted a first-of-its-kind schedule, a Special Casual vacancy round seat selection process in an attempt to fill the vacancies in the government medical and dental colleges in the State.

The Government is also planning to hold a similar special round for diploma holders on October 4, a proposal which will be confirmed on Tuesday, a KEA official told The Hindu. There are 840 vacant seats on offer for diploma holders, who seek lateral entry to third semester engineering courses.

With over 600 students attending this round, the response was better than expected, the official said.

All nine vacant seats in BDIMS, Bidar, and Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences were filled within half an hour of the counselling process.

Completed

With this, the medical seat allotment process for this academic year stands completed.

In the case of Dental seats, while seven of the 10 vacancies in Government Dental College, Bangalore, were filled, the Government Dental College in Bellary met with no response.

However, the Government had announced walk-in interviews to be held on the college premises in Bellary on September 30.

In view of the poor response to a few of the government colleges, most notably the new Government Dental College in Bellary, the State Government had directed the KEA to include a special round in its tight schedule.
