BANGALORE: There was tension at Kalkere near Ramamurthy Nagar after inebriated, car-borne men vandalised the Bhakta Anjaneyaswamy Temple during the early hours of Sunday.

“Seven persons came in the car to the temple around 2 a.m. and desecrated it,” said the Ramamurthy Nagar police, based on a complaint filed by the temple authorities.

“The accused, who were inebriated, barged into the temple, broke the iron grills and destroyed some pictures of gods that were hanging on a wall,” the police said.

A witness said he saw the men arrive in a high-end car and break the grills. The incident angered the local people who gave chase to the vandals in vain.

N. Srinivas, temple trustee, filed the police complaint.
