Children to perform Sivadurga Vandana Shirdi Spiritual Centre to hold daily abhishekams VISAKHAPATNAM: Three major organisations in the city – Bengali Association, Sri Shirdi Saibaba Spiritual Centre - Seethammadhara and Sri Mahakameswara Peetham near Sankara Matham have announced their annual Durga Puja programme. Talking to media persons here on Sunday, president of Bengali Association U. Panchali Banerjee said that the Sarbojanin Durga Puja Celebrations-2008 of the association would be held from October 5 to 9 at Town Hall on the beach road. On the first day Sashtipuja would be performed in the morning and the idol of Maa Durga unveiled and Sivadurga Vandana performed by children of VUDA Theatre. On the second day, on the occasion of Mahasaapthami, a ‘Voice of Vizag’ song and dance programme would be conducted. It would be a `Antyakshari’ show in which everyone could participate. ‘On October 7 is Mahastami when Sandhipuja will be performed at midnight. Before that, a musical nite with on orchestra will be arranged. On October 8 is Mahanabami. A western dance and Salsa progamme is arranged,” she said. She also said that though Bengali Association was set up as early as in 1928 and honoured visiting greats like Rabindranath Tagore in 1934 and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in 1943-44 in the city, it functioned from a small premises at Thomson Street in old city. With as many as 500 members now, it needed a bigger premises for setting up of a Kalyanamandapam which could also be used by other communities, she said. Secretary of the association A. Chatterjee and treasurer S.K. Banerjee also spoke. Sri Shirdi Saibaba Spiritual Centre will organise its annual Sri Mahalakshmi Durgadevi Navarathri celebrations and Sri Padmavathisametha Sri Prasanna Venkateswaraswamy Brahmotsavam from September 30 to October 9. There will be daily abhishekams, community lunch, recital of Sri Lalitasahasranamam, special alankaram to Sri Mahalakshmi Durga and Sri Prasanna Venkateswaraswami. Sri Prasanna Venkateswaraswami will be taken in a procession from the Centre every evening to different places like Sri Trimurthika Venkateswaraswami temple, Sri Abhaya Anjaneyaswami temple, Sri Varasiddhi Vinayaka temple opposite Eenadu office, Sri Krishna Mandir in north extension layout, and to other residential colonies every day. On Oct 9, Sri Mahalakshmidurga will be taken in a procession in the evening on the main thoroughfares of Seethammadhara. Cultural programmes and discourses are also arranged during Dasara at the Centre premises. Navachandi yagamSri Mahakameswari Peetham will celebrate Sarannavarathri at Sankara Matham. According to its peethadhipathi Yaddanapudi Ayyannapantulu, Navachandi yagam and Kalasarpayoganivarana, Nagasanthi Mahayagnam will be conducted as part of the celebrations. Sri Devi Navavaranarchana, kotikumkumarchana, Sahasradeepalankaraseva, pushpalankaram, and other rituals would be held, he said. On Oct. 10, Sri Kalyana Venkateswaraswami kalyanotsavam would be performed, he added.
