Four more die in road accidents

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Four more men died on the city’s roads on Sunday, bringing the toll to six.

An irate public set on fire a goods carrier that knocked down a rider near Whitefield on Sunday. The police said the vehicle, belonging to a courier service firm, hit a two-wheeler at Devanagundi near Kadugodi, killing the rider, Srinivas, a resident of Devanagundi, on the spot.

Even as Srinivas lay dead in a pool of blood, local residents and passers-by stoned the vehicle and set it on fire before blocking the road in protest.

Tension prevailed as a large number of people gathered there and shouted slogans against the police for not taking any action against alleged over-speeding by vehicles.

It took some persuasion on the part of the Whitefield police to convince them to disperse.

The blaze was doused by a fire tender.

Killed on the spot

A 45-year-old man died on the spot while his wife and daughter are in coma in hospital when a lorry knocked down their two-wheeler at Byramangala Cross near Bidadi around 1.30 p.m. on Sunday.

The family is yet to be identified, the Bidadi police said.

Techie killed

A 24-year-old software engineer, Sunny Gulati, working with Accenture, died on the spot when he rammed his two-wheeler into a lorry parked by the road near Bettahalasur Vidyanagar junction around 5 a.m. on Sunday. The dead, a native of Haryana and staying with friends in BTM layout, was on his way to Nandi Hills when the accident happened, Chikkajala police said.

Driver killed

In another accident near Banandur Cross near Bidadi, the driver of a van died around 1 a.m. on Sunday when he lost control over the vehicle after hitting a two-wheeler.

Seven persons, including the van passengers and the two-wheeler riders, escaped unhurt, the Bidadi police said.
