New Delhi: The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Tamil Nadu government on a special leave petition filed by a French national and film producer seeking to quash criminal proceedings against him on a complaint of cheating. A Bench of Justice C.K. Thakker and Justice D.K. Jain also issued notice to the complainant Thirumangai on the SLP filed by A. Coguolane, who had registered his Tamil film ‘Koothadi’ with the Tamil Film Producers Council. According to the petitioner, the second respondent, Dr. Thirumangai, gave Rs.25 lakh for producing the film, and an agreement was signed stating that the amount would be returned after the release of the film. Even as the production was on, she lodged a police complaint against him for criminal breach of trust and cheating. The petitioner’s plea to quash the proceedings was rejected by the Madras High Court and the present SLP is directed against this judgment.
