Margao: Resolute defending coupled with good goalkeeping by Karanjit Singh helped JCT down defending champion Dempo 2-1 in the ONGC I-League, at the Nehru Stadium here on Sunday. JCT, which led 1-0 at half-time, scored through Edward Silva (16th) and Balwant Singh (64th). Dempo, which dominated the entire game, reduced the margin through substitute Nicolau Borges (78th). JCT defender Anwar who played his heart out in the defence was declared Man-of-the-match. It was not Dempo’s day even though it dominated the game, especially in the second half creating several goal scoring chances but it either failed to find the mark or could not get past Karanjit Singh who brought off some smart saves to deny Dempo victory. — PTI
