Sad plight: A woman, who came to a government hospital for treatment of her child, watches the doctors agitate in Sangareddy on Monday.

SANGAREDDY: Responding to the call given by the State union, members of Andhra Pradesh Government Doctors Association (APGDA) went on strike relinquishing duties effecting the out-patient wards across the district.

As many as 104 doctors working in primary health centres, area hospitals and district hospital did not attend duties.

However, for treatment of patients with emergency requirements, two doctors were kept ready and they were taking emergency cases.

According to Dr. K. Sridhar, president of the APGDA district unit, the doctors went on strike demanding for implementation of the Central Government Health Services (CGHS) scales for doctors working in hospitals as the doctors working in teaching hospitals are already covered under UGC scales.

Worst effected

On an average about 1,000 patients being treated as out-patients were the worst effected.

The APGDA even warned to stop the emergency services if their demands were not met before October 2.

Adilabad Staff Reporter adds: Stir by doctors at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and Government doctors working in different primary health centres in the district caused disruption of medical services in Adilabad. They assembled on the RIMS premises and shouted slogans in support of their demands.
