3 ryots end life
SANGAREDDY: The suicide by three farmers in Medak district last week came to light on Monday. Two farmers – Guntapalli Bakkanna (45) and Tourya (55) – committed suicide on Friday last, while another farmer, Ragi Raja Ram (48), ended his life on Saturday. All the three suicides were mainly due to the farmers’ inability to cope with their financial problems.
Heavy debts
Bakkanna belonged to Bodishetpally village in Munipalli mandal. His pulse crop on two acres and cotton on 10 acres, which he took on lease, got inundated in the recent rain. Bakkanna took a loan of about Rs 2 lakh from his near and dear and invested the amount in raising the crop. Unable to repay the loans, Bakkanna consumed pesticide and ended his life.
The case of Tourya, belonging to Ansanpalli Vasuram tanda in Kolcharam mandal, also was somewhat similar. Raja Ram, who worked as a village servant, married off his three daughters and ended with a debt of Rs. 2 lakh.
