TIRUPATI: Telugu Desam leader and former Chairman of the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) P.R. Mohan on Monday cautioned Executive Officer of the Srikalahasteeswara Swamy Temple, T. Sivaji, against the alleged move of the temple authorities to procure audio and video CDs on the temple on ‘nomination basis’ from a supplier in violation of the mandatory system of calling for tenders. It may be mentioned here that early this month, Mr. Mohan not only challenged the G.O issued by the government, but also succeeded in securing an interim stay issued by Justice L. Narasimha Reddy of the AP High Court, restraining the authorities concerned from going ahead with purchase of audio and video cassettes on ‘nomination basis’. Under the proposal, the video and audio CDs containing stories and songs on ‘Srikalahasti Mahatmayam’ produced by the private contractor are to be purchased by the temple at a reported cost of Rs.65 and Rs.27 respectively and distributed free to devotees visiting the temple. Mr. Mohan questioned the propriety of the temple authorities purchasing the video and audio CDs at such ‘exorbitant rates’ while even the CDs of brand new and run-away hit movies were available for a price as low as Rs. 10 or Rs. 15. In his memorandum to the temple EO, he appealed to him to ensure transparency in the exercise and a judicious use of the temple money.
