Three farmers commit suicide
Staff Reporter
SANGAREDDY: The suicide by three farmers in Medak district last week came to light on Monday. Two farmers – Guntapalli Bakkanna (45) and Tourya (55) – committed suicide on Friday last, while another farmer, Ragi Raja Ram (48), ended his life on Saturday.
All the three suicides were mainly due to the farmers’ inability to cope with their financial problems.
However, the District Revenue Officer BSDVSS Murthy told The Hindu on Monday that he had not yet received any report from the three-member committee consisting of the RDO, DSP and agriculture officer who has to certify the reasons and identify the deceased as a farmer. The Government would pay Rs 1.5 lakh to each family if the committee certifies them to be farmers.
