Love for Bush

It is with anguish that I record my protest over the encroachment of my emotional rights. This is with reference to the reported statement of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that Indians have deep love for President George Bush. Despite having regard for Dr. Singh, I cannot but protest over the statement as an Indian citizen. I don’t love President Bush. In fact, I hate Mr. Bush and Tony Blair as both have committed heinous crimes against humanity — in Iraq and other places. I feel ashamed that the Prime Minister of my country loves a person who has committed such crimes against humanity. I am sure more than 60 per cent of Indians share my feelings about Mr. Bush and Mr. Blair. I expect Dr. Singh, as a gentleman, to withdraw his latest statement and express regret to fellow Indians who feel hurt by it.

Obviously, Dr. Singh doesn’t think a large number of our people living below the poverty line even know Mr. Bush, let alone ‘love’ him? One fails to understand the Prime Minister’s philosophy behind the nuclear deal.

Dr. Singh’s statement is proof that he does not know the mind of Indians. What an insult to the people of our peace-loving nation!

There is nothing surprising about Mr. Bush and Dr. Singh admiring each other. Mr. Bush destroyed a prosperous country to satisfy his ego, spending billions of dollars in a war that resulted in a deep economic crisis in his country. That, in turn, affected the economies of other countries. As for Dr. Singh, in the last four-and-a-half years that he has been Prime Minister, the country has come to the verge of destabilisation. Both leaders have created ‘history.’ It is for the historians to record their views on their contribution to their countries.

V. Sravani,

Hyderabad

By saying that Indians deeply love Mr. Bush, Dr. Singh has embarrassed a majority of Indians. He should have considered Mr. Bush’s media ratings in the opinion polls conducted in India before he made such a remark. Dr. Singh’s comment is an unpopular one about an unpopular President.

T.M. Haris,

Malappuram
