Corrections and clarifications

A sentence in the second paragraph of a PTI report “4 infants die after vaccination” (Early editions, September 28, 2008, page 1) was “The vaccination drive was immediately.” It was an editing error. It should have been “The vaccination drive was immediately suspended after the deaths.”

The last paragraph of a Thiruvananthapuram report “Air Marshal S.C. Mukul bids farewell” (Some Southern editions, September 29, 2008, page 2) was “It is also during his term that the IAF staged an impressive air show to mark its silver jubilee.” It was the platinum jubilee (1932-2007).

In an AP report “Sought-after prime number is found” (“Newscape” page, September 28, 2008), the fourth paragraph was “Mersenne primes, named after the French mathematician Marin Mersenne, who discovered them, take the form 2P-1, where P is also a prime number. The new prime is P = 43,112,609”, leading to a query. It is expressed as two to the power of “P” minus one.” It should have been 2^P-1, i.e 2^43,112,609 – 1.
