PUDUKOTTAI: It was a walkout galore by the councillors of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress at the municipal council meeting here on Monday. No sooner the Chairperson of the Council, Ramathilagam Udaiyappan, was about to take up the proceedings of the meeting, a group of AIADMK councillors, led by M. Rajendran, staged a walk-out, protesting the rise in the prices of essential commodities, including vegetables and other horticultural crops. Earlier, they had come to the meeting hall, with garlands of horticultural crops and raising slogans against inflation. The BJP councillors, Arunachalam and Natarajan, also voiced their concern over the inflation and its impact on the common masses. “Ensure quality”When a discussion on the implementation of underground drainage scheme in the town was taken up, Ibrahim Babu and Arumugam urged the Chairperson to ensure quality in its execution. Mr. Ibrahim Babu pleaded for setting up a vigilance committee for keeping a close vigil and also expedite execution of the project. Meanwhile, protesting the hike in the property tax, a group of Congress councillors - Arumugam, Rajeswari, Mohan, Ibrahim Babu and Anandan as also the BJP councillors, staged a walk-out, demanding immediate downward revision of the same. They said that the people would be affected due to the hike in the property tax.
