“Construction of railway overbridge at Lalapettai will be completed by December-end”
TIRUCHI: Southern Railway has approved designs for railway overbridges and other technical details provided by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) as part of the expansion of national highways all over Tamil Nadu, Union Minister of Shipping, Surface Transport and Highways T. R. Baalu said on Monday.
Addressing reporters here after inspecting works on the four-lane project on the Tiruchi-Chennai National Highway, Mr. Baalu said construction of the railway overbridge at Lalapettai near Kulithalai in adjoining Karur district would be completed by December-end.
Mr. Baalu said the Authority would spare no effort in speedily executing the four-lane project under the concept of ‘Build Operate and Transfer’ (BOT) strategy. The NHAI would even sanction advances to the implementing agencies to be adjusted in course of time.
The Union Ministry of Shipping was awaiting the Supreme Court verdict on the implementation of the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project. Members (Technical) of the NHAI S. K. Puri and Ashok Vasan, and senior general manager of Nava Yuga Engineering Company, K. Jagadishwara Rao, explained the progress of the works on bridges across the Cauvery and the Coleroon to the Union Minister.
