SIRCILLA (KARIMNAGAR DT.): A permanent counselling centre for the benefit of weavers of Karimnagar will be set up at Sircilla town soon to tackle the problem of weaver suicides. The centre will be manned by a psychologist, four volunteers and two auxiliary nurses and midwife who will conduct counselling for the weavers faced with dire conditions. A de-addiction centre will also be opened at the Area Hospital, Sircilla as alcoholism emerged as one of major problems besotting the weaver community. These decisions were taken at a brainstorming session the district in charge and Handlooms and Textiles Minister Sabita Indra Reddy had with the widows of weavers at Sircilla town on Tuesday. The programme was attended by Industry Secretary Y. Srilaxmi, Handlooms and Textiles Commissioner I. Srinivas Srinaresh, Collector Sandeep Kumar Sultania, APCO chairman M. Sriramulu and Karimnagar District Cooperative Central Bank General Manager Konduri Ravinder Rao among others. Most of the widows who spoke at this meeting spoke about alcoholism causing enormous problems to the families of weavers. A medical camp will also be organised soon. The Minister assured the weaving community to apprise Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy about their problems. She said an effort will also be made for converting the textile park at Sircilla into an apparel park.
