Call to develop industrial culture

Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM: Employers have emphasised the need for developing industrial culture, communication skills and also cumulative responsibility for improving production in units. They were speaking at a workshop on “Employment promotion under Rajiv Udyogasri”, organised by heads of employment generation departments, on Tuesday.

In his opening remarks, Collector G. Ram Narayana Reddy regretted that against the target of 25,000 placements in the current fiscal the achievement was only 3,447 and during last year for the same target it was 17,817. He informed industrialists that DRDA, SETVIZ, Industrial Training Institutes, ITDA, RTC and other employment generation departments would provide the skilled and trained personnel for potential employment in units. He asked officials and industrialists to study the difficulties and overcome them to achieve target.

Project Officer of ITDA, Parvathipuram N. Krishna said that 800 tribals were imparted training in various skills against the targeted 2,150 personnel this year. Of them 300 were provided placements. Principal and convenor of ITIs Thodurmal appealed to employers to give information regarding the skills they required for meeting the new challenges ahead.

Explaining the problems they were facing, N.C. Jain of Hoogly Jute Mills Limited, said that “industrial culture is missing and there is no responsibility among workers for improving production. Workers and union leaders are destroying the economic condition of the mills.”
