Corrections and clarifications

On September 22, 2008, Education Plus (Andhra Pradesh editions) carried an article on the Collegian Page, titled “Savour those happy days” by Sarath. The same day we received a communication from Sitaram Sagar Addepalli that this was a copy of his article, “College days — the best moments of life”, published in Education Plus on October 15, 2007. An examination showed this claim was basically true. Addepalli’s article appeared in the Visakhapatnam edition, but not in the Vijayawada and Hyderabad editions, while Sarath’s appeared in all editions. Asked to explain, Sarath apologised for the inconvenience caused and promised to take care. It was obviously plagiarism but it is difficult, if not impossible, to spot such infractions.

The eighth paragraph of a report “At the last supper, Professor Manmohan lends a calming touch” (September 29, 2008) was “The Prime Minister was in a professional mood, according to one aide.” It should have been “professorial mood”.

With reference to a news report “HC order on Housing Scheme modified” (Tamil Nadu, September 12, 2008, page 1), the first paragraph should have read: The Supreme Court has held that allottees of flats/houses in Ellisnagar Housing Scheme in Madurai should pay interest on the difference in land cost from the date on which the final cost was arrived at (and not from the date of allotment as reported).
