Purchase of cotton by CCI sought

ADILABAD: The Telugu Desam Party on Tuesday demanded Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) to buy cotton in October. Purchase of cotton by CCI will ensure support price for the produce and will pre-empt exploitation by traders in the local markets, it felt.
At a press conference, TDP spokesman S. Venugopalachary also sought insurance for cotton crop. He said compensation should also be paid to cotton farmers for the decline in yields due to delay in fertilizer distribution.
Mr. Venugopalachary said party president N. Chandrababu Naidu will start his campaign from Mancherial town in Adilabad town on October 2. A dharna will be organised in the town during this time.
