No entertainment tax on Ramlila activities

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government has exempted from entertainment tax all activities and programmes to be organised during the ten days of Ramlila.

Announcing this on Tuesday, Finance Minister A. K. Walia said the activities exempted from tax include “swings and other entertaining activities that are organised during Ramlila”.

The Minister recalled that the Delhi Government had exempted staging of Ramlila from entertainment tax as part of Kala Sanjivani Samaroh for a period of ten days in a year under its new excise policy.

The Government had received a large number of representations requesting exemption of entertainment tax on entry tickets for swings and other entertainment activities.

Keeping in view the interest of spectators during Ramlilas, the Excise Department has decided to grant the tax waiver, the Minister said.
