Nod for appointment of teachers on contract basis

Teachers allowed to become members of DGHS

Prorogation of monsoon session of Assembly recommended

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Cabinet has allowed government school teachers to become members of the Delhi Government Health Scheme and permitted appointment of teachers on a contract basis in government schools.

At a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday, the Cabinet also decided to hand over school buildings where colleges were functioning to the Directorate of Higher Education. It also recommended prorogation of the monsoon session of the Delhi Assembly.

Following the meeting, Ms. Dikshit said government school teachers had been allowed to become members of DGHS by contributing at the prescribed rate to enable them to be at par with other Delhi Government employees in respect of medical facilities. Earlier they were being granted a fixed medical allowance of Rs.75 per month.

The Cabinet has also approved guidelines for engaging teachers on a contract basis in the Directorate of Education to overcome the shortage of teachers due to prevailing vacancies. This would help in filling the posts of a large number of computer teachers in particular.

At the meeting, approval was also given for transfer to the Directorate of Higher Education of school buildings and land of Directorate of Education on which colleges were running.

At present, nine colleges that are fully funded by the Delhi Government are operating out of school buildings.

The Chief Minister said the Cabinet has also decided to recommend to the Lieutenant-Governor prorogation of the 14th session of the Assembly, which was adjourned sine die on September 12.
