Special Correspondent

Bangalore: The State-level Book Selection Committee for Libraries will ensure that Kannada classical literature, starting from the early scriptures to the 19th Century, reaches every village library in Karnataka, head of the committee and historian S. Settar has said.

Speaking at a function organised by the employees of gram panchayat and central libraries here on Tuesday, he said that 2,500 village libraries had all the works of Jnanpith and Central Sahitya Akademi Award winners in Kannada.

Kadidal Shamanna, farmers’ leader and a pioneer of the library movement in rural Karnataka, was felicitated on the occasion.
