dated October 2, 1958: Rain havoc in U.P.

Forty-three persons were killed and 24.3 lakh acres of land affected by the continuous heavy rains in the western districts of Uttar Pradesh, said Mr. Charan Singh, U. P. State Revenue and Finance Minister, in Lucknow on October 1. He said that news about the rains from some places in the western districts was “disquieting”. Such heavy rainfall, water-logging and floods were likely to cause severe damage not only to the standing kharif but would also affect rabi sowing adversely.
