AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently signed agreements with the High Commissions of Malawi and Belarus for bilateral cooperation in exchange of information in trade and industry. According to the Chamber’s senior deputy secretary general Bipin Patel, there would be no financial transaction as the agreement was mainly “service based.” It would now be easier for the industries in Gujarat to seek information about exports and imports, investments and other trade and industry-related information from the two countries. He said he was not aware if similar memoranda of understanding had been signed among various chambers of commerce in the country with Ambassadors or High Commissions of other countries. But it was the first time that more than 15 foreign dignitaries were present at the Gujarat chamber during the signing of the agreement. Chinese, Japanese and Nepalese Ambassadors Zang Yan, Naoki Ito and Durgesh Mansingh, and Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner C.R. Jaysinghe were present. The Ambassadors or High Commissioners of Russia, Laos, Ukraine, Nicaragua, Peru, Senegal, Gambia, and Montenegro besides those of Malawi and Belarus were present. The High Commissioners of Malawi and Belarus agreed to consider the Chamber’s suggestion to grant priority visas to its members for visits to those countries on its recommendation.
