1,200 persons to get old age pension soon

VIRUDHUNAGAR: The district administration had given orders to provide old age pension under Indira Gandhi National Old age Pension Scheme to 1,200 persons, CollectorV. Chandrasekaran has said.

Addressing a gram sabha meeting at Thulukkapatti here on Thursday, he said that Tamil Nadu Government was implementing several beneficial schemes. The district administration was making all possible efforts to take all the schemes to the poor. However, the benefits could be given only based on the established norms, he said. Free colour television sets had been distributed to 288 panchayats in the district. The sale of 10 grocery items at Rs. 50 a month through public distribution system would begin in the district on Friday, he said.

The gram sabha meetings were being conducted on four occasions only to enable the people of the panchayats to discuss the civic problems and find solutions.

He urged the people to pay all their dues, including property tax and water tax, to augment the resources of the panchayats, so that it could take up development works.

Besides, providing drinking water facility, cement roads would be laid and cremation yard established and new library building constructed in the panchayat under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Scheme.

Panchayat president Padmavathi and Assistant Director (panchayats) Varadharajan were present.
