PR confident of comfortable win

Staff Reporter

It is not opposed to tying up with those committed to achieving social justice

District party office inaugurated in the presence of K. Vidyadhar Rao and tyagi Alluri Ramaraju

Blood donation camp held to mark the occasion

Kakinada: The Praja Rajyam’s district office was inaugurated at Gandhinagar here on Thursday in the presence of coordinator Kotagiri Vidyadhar Rao, freedom fighter Alluri Venkata Ramaraju and Sardar Gouthu Latchanna’s daughter R. Jhansi.

Early polls

The membership drive was launched at the same time and a blood donation camp was organised by the Chiranjeevi Voluntary Blood Donors’ Club to mark the occasion. Speaking to mediapersons later, Mr. Vidyadhar Rao exuded confidence that the PR would secure a comfortable victory in the ensuing elections and did not rule out the chance of early elections. He observed that the fortunes of the Congress were on the downslide and it had little scope of recovering from the shock of inflation, which had made the people’s lives miserable.

The Chief Minister’s instructions to Collectors to launch all welfare schemes by the end of December and the raging debate as to who should be made the candidates for the ensuing elections were clear indications of the Congress’ inclination to go to polls earlier than scheduled.

Nevertheless, it faces certain defeat due to its failures. For the TDP also, the prospect of victory was bleak, he predicted.

Crucial issue

Mr. Rao said though PR was in no hurry to forge electoral alliances, Chiranjeevi did not rule out the possibility of tying up with parties which believed in his ideals and expressed their commitment to achieving social justice, which was the party’s mainstay.

The meeting of Mr. Chiranjeevi and CPI leader K. Narayana was a part of the latter’s efforts aimed at preventing the splitting of anti-incumbency votes by bringing together the like-minded parties.

Mr. Vidyadhar Rao, who was a senior leader of the Telugu Desam Party, said even Amitabh Bachchan, through his wife Jaya Bachchan, had suggested to Mr. Chiranjeevi that his popularity was enough to achieve a convincing victory at the hustings without joining hands with any other party, including the Samajwadi Party.

PR activists Jyothula Venkateswara Rao, Chalamalasetti Sunil, R. Surya Kalyan Ram and others were present.

Seats allocation

VIZIANAGARAM: Amidst thunderous applause, K. Subrahmanya Tilak, former MP (1952), inaugurated the district party office of Praja Rajyam at P.S.R. Complex here on Thursday.

Prior to inauguration, he paid tributes by garlanding the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi.

G. Chittemma, a dalit woman, from Jonnaguddi, unfurled the party flag. State coordinators Bandaru Satyananda Rao and Gorle Haribabu Naidu (MLC) enrolled R.J.V. Srikhar, a disabled, as the first member from the district.

Later, addressing a large gathering, Mr. Satyananda Rao exuded confidence that the party would make a sweep, winning all the nine Assembly seats in the district. Mr. Haribabu Naidu said that the nine-day tour of the party founder Chiranjeevi in the three north coastal districts would be finalised in a day or two.

He said that reservation of seats in the Assembly elections would be proportionate to the population of various communities. During the next one-week, the party flags would be unfurled in every village and mandal in the district.

He appealed to youth to gear up in strength for the battle for ballot.

Differences

Meanwhile, differences among the groups led by Gurana Ayyalu and Chandaka Ramdas were glaring, as the former and his supporters were conspicuously absent at the meeting.

When pointed out, Mr. Haribabu Naidu told media persons that Mr. Ayyalu was away on personal work and there was no breakaway group.
