DHARWAD: The seven-day State level special camp of National Service Scheme (NSS) for girls organised jointly by the Pre-University Education Board and R.L.S. Composite PU College, Dharwad began here on Wednesday. Inaugurating the special camp being held at the Dharwad District Agriculture Training Centre, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar said that NSS played a crucial role in facilitating a social transformation sans conflict. Expressing happiness over young girls voluntarily involving themselves in the NSS, which took birth with the objective of creating social awareness and transformation, Mr. Shettar said that such camps helped in bringing out leadership qualities among girls. He said only development of villages led to the development of a country and it was the responsibility of everyone to contribute towards it. Mr. Shettar called on the girls to make use of the opportunities made available to them. MLA Chandrakanth Bellad and others were present. Director of KLE Education Society S.G. Javali presided over the inaugural function. More than three hundred girls from across the state are participating in the special camp.
