dated October 3, 1958: Control of space project

Control of all major space projects and satellite programmes was on October 1 transferred from U. S. Military departments to the new National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The Vanguard satellite project, three other satellite programmes and the four proposed moon-shows will now come under NASA. Military departments will continue to work on weapons and military applications of space projects.
