College girl ends life on her birthday
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: Disturbed over allegedly being stalked by a youngster, an Intermediate first year student ended her life by hanging on her birthday on Thursday at Bakaram in Musheerabad.
Priyanka, 17, in a suicide note purportedly written in English by her, appealed to the police to ‘kill’ the alleged stalker Kailash as he drove her to suicide. The death due to alleged sexual harassment, unheard of in the State capital in recent times, shocked her family members and locals.
A week ago, Priyanka complained to her parents -- Neelakantha Naidu and Haimavathi -- that Kailash had been sexually harassing her for quite some time.
Musheerabad police station Inspector C. Rajeshwar Reddy said the accused youth, also an Intermediate student, used to harass the girl by passing lewd remarks whenever she stepped out of the house.
Incidentally, a brother of Priyanka’s father is a top police officer. When she complained about the stalker, her father had assured her that he would approach the police. On Wednesday night, after having dinner, the girl went inside her bedroom and closed the door. It being her birthday, her father had sent birthday wishes through an SMS the next morning. As there was no response, he repeatedly knocked on the door. When he finally peeped through the window, he found his daughter hanging from the ceiling.
